One diet technique is getting more popular today which is skipping breakfast. While many people swear that it can help with their weight loss, there are people who said that this method is not natural and might has negative effect on your body. So which one is which? Is skipping breakfast a good method for weight loss? Let’s find out.
Skipping Breakfast Is A Form Of Intermittent Fasting
I’ve written about intermittent fasting before which in my opinion is one of the best way to really drop your calorie intake to create a huge calorie deficit – the recipe for fast weight loss.
Skipping breakfast with your last meal around 6/7 pm in the previous day will give you around 17-18 hours of fasting (if your next meal is lunch) and this is the easiest form of intermittent fasting.
Just like skipping breakfast, there’s tons of people that are against fasting but in my opinion, their arguments are not really that valid and does not make sense. For one, how can someone eating way less than he normally is can get a heart disease?
If you really think about it, it just does not make any sense – with the same argument/conclusion, this means those monks that are eating way lesser than normal human are filled with diseases?
Eating Less Is The Key To Healthy Life, AND Weight Loss
Yes, I believe you got my point. It’s well established that our modern day diet and eating habit are the root cause for most of the modern diseases (obesity, heart disease, etc.). Which is why I’m a huge proponent for eating less.
And in the case of weight loss, intermittent fasting and skipping breakfast are the 2 big methods that will surely yield great results, if done correctly.
3 Golden Rules For Skipping Breakfast
In order to assist you in this diet method, I’ve listed a couple of rules that will give you the best result:
1-Only Drink Plain Water Or Unsweetened Tea/Coffee In The Morning
The first rule is to only drink plain water or coffee/tea (unsweetened) in the morning. In addition, I’d suggest to drop the milk/cream from the tea and coffee altogether.
The idea is to ensure your body is not getting any calories AT ALL during the morning. This will make the fast more effective as your body will scramble to use the fatty deposits and glycogen around your body to fuel your morning.
Feeling hungry?
Just drink lots of water and you’ll be fine =)
2-Keep Your Lunch And Dinner The Same Portion And Calorie
The next rule is very very important: you need to keep your lunch and dinner essentially the same in terms of portion and calorie count. Remember, the reason why we’re skipping breakfast is to reduce lots of calorie intake as well as the benefit of fasting. But this can be outdone by a bad choice during lunch and dinner time.
Too many people feel that since they have skipped breakfast, they’re entitled to eat an extra serving during lunch.
And I can tell you this is the one reason why your weight is not moving even after doing lots of dieting techniques.
The only way to ensure you’re getting the best of skipping breakfast is to have a discipline when it comes to your foods. So if you’re used to eating 700 kcal calories during lunch in a normal day, eat the same amount during the days you’re skipping breakfast – even if your stomach is really growling for an extra serving!
3-Resist From Binge Eating Snacks
Last but not least, resist from binge eating snacks. Just like Rule no. 2, this one is also common with people that just started their diet. Just because you skipped breakfast, does not mean that you can binge eat that chips.
The rule of clean eating (no snacks, no sugar etc.) still applies even if you’re skipping breakfast. It’s one of the most important rules as this ensures you’re not eating more calories which will reduce the effectiveness of your diet, and increasing the amount of time you need to lose weight.
