How To Do Low Carb Diet?

Low carb diet or keto diet is surging in popularity over the years. The diet plan – with it’s core regime to eliminating carb – seems like the miracle formula that can help people lose weight weights easily.

Well, I’ve done it for a few months now and I can sufficiently say that low carb indeed lives up to its reputation and had helped me to lose lots of weight, if done right. In fact, it’s one of the method that you can do to lose weight even without doing any exercise.

Food That You Must Not Eat

First, let’s go through the foods that you cannot eat:

  1. Any form of carb (carbohydrate) such as rice, pasta, potato, bread etc.
  2. Sugary filled foods such as cake, pudding etc.
  3. Sugary filled drinks such as soda, sweet drinks of any flavour, juices, ice cream etc.
  4. Baked foods such as biscuits, pastry etc.
  5. Any kind of processed or packaged foods.
  6. Any kind of fast foods.
  7. Any kind of food that has sugar or taste sweet.

Yes, I’m going to admit that the list seems endless and can go on forever. But have you noticed that most of the foods in this list is are processed foods?

The key factor in low carb diet is to reduced carb or sugar from our diet so that insulin spike will not happen.

Insulin spike is one of the things that prevent our body from utilizing the fat cells as energy (intermittent fasting  and skipping breakfast works using the same concept too).

The invention of sugar can be said as the turning point in civilization as more and more people fall into the trap of obesity due to it. Sugar packs a lot of calorie in a small serving and this immediately causing calorie surplus if you’re not aware of it – the main factor for weight gain!

Thus, eliminating or at least reducing carb and sugar to a minimum is one of the best thing that you can do to help you reduce your weight. You will be reducing insulin level in your blood while also reducing the amount of calorie intake.

So What Can You Eat Then?

With that out of the way, what kind of food can you eat then?

Well, you might have guessed it already. For low carb diet, protein sources such as meats, fishes, seafoods, eggs, and vegetables should form the majority of the food that you eat.

And just like that, you will be forced to return back to good ol’ unprocessed foods, just like our ancestors eat before, that have lots of nutrients.

Without those processed foods in your diet, your stomach and body will be able to digest it easier and taking the full nutrition that all your foods have.

But Do Be Mindful Of Your Calories

Another common mistake that most people do when going on a low carb diet is to consume lots of foods. Even though the foods do not have carb in it (e.g a huge piece of steak etc.), all foods do have calories in it.

Just cutting out carb from your diet is not enough. You also need to ensure you’re also having a calorie deficit to ensure weight loss can happen. So you must be mindful of what kind of food, way of cooking and your meal proportion are to still get that calorie deficit.

Fried foods (e.g fried chicken) or the fatty part of meat have a higher amount of calories as fats contain more calories compared to protein. Personally, I love myself some soups or steamed meat/fish because it uses the least amount of oil when cooking.
